The Region

The Languedoc was for many years overlooked by overseas visitors who turned left at the bottom of the Rhône valley and headed for Provence and the Côte d’Azur. However, in the last 20 years it has been well and truly discovered, and many thousands of north Europeans have bought property in the region and rented it out in summer, which in turn brings a whole new wave of visitors to discover this fantastic area.

Yes there are the Canal du Midi, Cathar country, Carcassonne, Montpellier, Pézenas, Nîmes, miles of sandy beaches, lakes and mountains and great weather. But there are other things too, that you will only find out about by visiting: Fantastic seafood; amazing summer festivals in every village, and most importantly, a quality of life in the ancient villages which are still steeped in the tradition of wine production.

What you will discover when you visit, is that wine is the very fabric of society here. From the mass plantings of vines in the nineteenth century, to the rise of the cooperative movement, and now the innovation of the small independent wineries, wine production is the lifeblood of the economy and the society. Taking a tour with Languedoc Wine Tours will give you a snapshot of the real Languedoc, and will help you to understand and appreciate this wonderful region.
