Discover The Vineyards Of The Languedoc

Picpoul De Pinet and Seafood

Half Day Tour (3 hours). Meeting place: Castelnau de Guers

Price (including seafood tasting plate)  €30 per person

In the warm and sunny south of France, white wines often have a tendency to be rather fat and flowery. This isn’t surprising with the climate and the local grape varieties such as Roussanne and Marsanne. Luckily though, for lovers of dry, crisp, white wines, there is also Picpoul de Pinet. Grown only in this area, the indigenous PicpoulBlanc grape produces wines which were made to be drunk with the fantastic fish and seafood from the Mediterranean, and in particular, the Huitres de Bouzigues, the oysters which come from the Etang de Thau.

The Picpoul vineyard stretches  from the warmer areas  bordering the south and east of  Pézenas, and stretches down to  the edge of the Etang de Thau,  where the cooling breezes on  hot summer days, and the  warmth of the mass of water at  night, produce a truly  remarkable micro-climate.

We will visit high-quality producers in both areas and taste their wines. We will look at the cultivation of the vine itself in this area, before rounding off our visit with a plate of seafood and a chilled glass of Picpoul.
